Free Rides for Area Students

Taunton – With school vacation week beginning February 16, 2009, parents who work and students who want and need to get around can breathe a sigh of relief thanks to GATRA. The public transit service, which began operation to Duxbury, Kingston, Marshfield in December has seen steady growth in ridership in just two months. “We’ve been very pleased with the steady growth in riders for our SAIL (Seaside Area Intertown Link) service,” said Francis J. Gay, GATRA administrator.

“Offering free rides during the February vacation is a great opportunity for us to expose younger riders to the many benefits of public transit while giving parents some peace of mind that their children are being transported comfortably and safely,” added Mr. Gay.

The free rides are available to all students in Duxbury, Kingston, Marshfield and Plymouth from Monday, February 16 – Saturday, February 21, 2009. For schedules and information on the Plymouth Area Link and SAIL systems, visit GATRA’s website at or call 508.732.6010. GATRA is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, one of 15 Regional Transit Authorities in the state with an operating budget of more than
$22 million. GATRA’s management companies operate more than 90 vehicles providing over 650,000 customer rides in 26 communities.
