GATRA ANNOUNCES ROUTE CHANGES TO PLYMOUTH AREA LINK

Modified routes provide better service and increase operating efficiency

PLYMOUTH, MA (June 6, 2011) The Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA) today announced changes to the Plymouth Area Link (PAL) routes that will go in effect on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Service changes include the consolidation of the Pilgrim Link and Mayflower Link fixed routes between Plymouth Center and Manomet plus the addition of a second fixed route with a new deviated route service between Manomet and Cedarville.

New Mayflower Link Cuts Wait Times in Half!

To dramatically reduce headway and long wait times between consecutive buses, the new Mayflower Link has been combined with the old Pilgrim Link and shortened to end in Manomet with additional stops at Plymouth Center, Plymouth Library, Exit 5/P & B Bus Stop, Long Pond Medical Center, Shops @ Five, Jordan Hospital, Pilmoth Plantation, Gellar’s, Woodcrest Apartments and White Horse Beach. This important change will allow the bus to run on an hourly schedule, instead of the old two hour schedule.

New Manomet/Cedarville Deviated Link Provides 3 Flexible Options:

  • Fixed Route Service with designated stops at the Manomet Stop & Shop, Indian Brook, Ellisville Harbor State Park and Bruno’s Corner in Cedarville;
  • Flag Stops, where riders may board PAL anywhere along the bus route by waving to the driver as the vehicle approaches;
  • New Deviated Route Service where passengers who live within ¾ mile of the fixed route, can now request a deviation by calling 508-732-6010, Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00 pm. Deviation requests should be made at least two hours before requested bus is scheduled to depart. Deviations will be done based on availabilityand road accessibility. A fee of $1.00 will be added to the passengers boarding fee for all deviations.

“The goal is to improve the overall quality of the Plymouth Area Link service for customers by reducing trip times on the old Mayflower Link while also providing expanded service in lower Plymouth between Manomet and Cedarville,” said Francis Gay, GATRA administrator.

For more information on the route changes for the PAL service, go to www.gatra.org. The new PAL routes and schedules are also available on GATRA buses and at various outlets throughout the Plymouth area.
