GATRA SUPPORTS ANNUAL NATIONAL DUMP THE PUMP DAY ON JUNE 21

Taunton, MA – With the economic recession still in effect and regional gas prices threatening to approach the $4 per gallon mark this summer, the Greater Attleboro Taunton Transit Authority (GATRA) announced today that it will join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the Seventh Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 21.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) the 2012 National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation and save money instead of driving a car. Started in June 2006 when gas prices were just $3 per gallon, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money.

In honor of Dump the Pump Day, GATRA is offering FREE Ride Passes for all passengers who ride the bus on Thursday, June 21.  The free passes may be obtained on the buses and will be valid for one free ride on the GATRA bus system from June 21 through June 30.

In addition to participating in the annual Dump the Pump Day, GATRA also partners with MassRIDES and NuRide to offer riders rewards for choosing healthier and “greener” transportation options. NuRide, the country’s largest commuter rewards program, was developed to encourage people to make greener trips and earn rewards. From taking the GATRA bus, to walking, carpooling, vanpooling, biking, and even telecommuting, this program offers individuals the opportunity to receive points that can be accumulated and then redeemed for retail discounts, restaurant coupons, and tickets to shows and attractions.

For more information about the Dump the Pump event and NuRide program, visit the GATRA website at www.gatra.org or call us at 508-823-8828.
