Did you know that public transit and highway grants funded from the Highway Trust Fund cannot be made without an authorization bill. Congress needs to pass a new surface transportation authorization before MAP 21 expires on May 31, 2015.
After a winter like the one we had this year in New England, it is obvious that we need to maintain and improve the transportation systems that serve the state. GATRA strongly urges the U.S. Congress to enact a new multi-year authorization bill that will provide dedicated funding for the Highway Trust Fund to ultimately pay for the current federal transit program and the growth of that program for transit and highway infrastructure needs.
If you use public transit especially, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) wants you to speak up. On National Transportation Infrastructure Day (April 9, 2015), write a letter to congress and express your concerns on this important issue. Or call your city or town officials and tell them what it is like to navigate in a town or city without a car and also let them know what you need!
