Bus Service Coming to Scituate – July 2

GATRA is pleased to announce that the Scituate Loop (Sloop) will begin service on Thursday, July 2, 2015. This new service will provide shuttle bus service between the Scituate Harbor and the Greenbush MBTA station and other locations along Country Way and 1st Parish Road in south Scituate.

In addition to the Scituate Harbor CVS and Greenbush MBTA station, the shuttle will also make stops at the Village Marketplace, Widow’s Walk Golf Course, Town Hall, Central Park Senior Housing, Wheeler Park Housing, and the Senior Center on Brook Street. Passengers may also board the Sloop anywhere along the bus route by waving to the driver as the vehicle approaches.

“The Town is excited to partner with GATRA to finally bring long overdue public transit to residents, businesses and tourists in Scituate,” said town administrator, Patricia A. Vinchesi. “’This achieves a long-term goal of town officials to connect the train to the Harbor. The route is particularly geared to our senior population with stops at Central Park and Wheeler Park. We hope it will be widely used so we can expand it to North Scituate and we are looking forward to a long relationship with GATRA and the excellent services they provide,” added Vinchesi.

The bus will operate Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

All GATRA transportation is equipped with accessibility for wheelchairs. The bus also features a bike rack for passengers who want to pedal part of the way and ride the rest.

The one-way cash fare is $1.00. Students through high school, seniors, persons with disabilities and Medicare card holders will pay 50 cents. To encourage ridership, GATRA is offering FREE service through July 16, 2015. Schedules will be available on the GATRA website at www.gatra.org.
